The Edinburgh Scotch & Scran was born from a shared passion for Scotland’s history, whisky, and incredible food — brought to life by two friends with deep roots in Scottish culture.

I’m Iain Howard, and I’ve spent my life in Edinburgh’s historic Old Town. For over 30 years, I’ve wandered its closes, heard its ghost stories, and soaked in the rich tapestry of its past. My love for storytelling started young, surrounded by tales of Jacobites, vaults, and legends that still echo through the stones of this ancient city.

Food has always been at the heart of my life. Growing up with a father who ran Michelin-starred restaurants, I developed an early appreciation for fine dining and local ingredients. That experience shaped my deep respect for flavour, seasonality, and the importance of bringing people together around great food.

My journey with whisky began a decade ago, working with one of Scotland’s largest whisky companies. Over the years, I’ve earned my Diploma in Brewing and Distilling, and had the honour of sharing the magic of Scotch with people from all over the world.

Then there’s Hector, the Clan Prince of Maclean. Whisky runs in his blood. He’s closely related to Charlie MacLean — Scotland’s most renowned whisky expert — and has spent a lifetime immersed in the world of Scotch. Fifteen years ago, Hector opened his own whisky shop, curating rare finds and working closely with both boutique distilleries and the big names to bring the best of Scotch to his customers. His deep knowledge and incredible palate are the heart of our tasting experiences.

Together, we wanted to create something meaningful — a tour that captures the soul of Scotland. From historical walking tours through Edinburgh’s Old Town, to expertly guided whisky tastings, and finishing with Scottish charcuterie featuring venison, haggis, and artisan cheeses — The Edinburgh Scotch & Scran is our tribute to Scottish heritage, taste, and storytelling.
